In 2002, only 20% of people claimed to recognize the Fair Trade symbol and could explain what the concept of Fair Trade was. Now 1 in 5 people may not sound like a lot but it was a start, especially considering the fact that there had been no real longstanding campaign to make people aware of it. In fact, this demonstrated that the public was developing a new conscience and was looking to change the way in which they interacted with the world.

Many people were starting to think of the underprivileged in third world countries that did not get the fair treatment that they had become so accustomed to in developed countries. Revelations about the conditions in the sweatshops of Asia and Africa disgusted people, especially when newspapers and media outlets revealed the child labor and exploitation that occurred in those institutions. It certainly disgusted us so we resolved to make a commitment to making the world a better place.

As of 2008, 70% of the population could recognize the Fair Trade mark and more than £1.6 billion was spent on Fair Trade certified products in 2007. This highlights just how far we have come as a global community but we still believe that we can do more.
